Mackie Academy 15 - Kinross 16

In the first away league match of the season Kinross scraped a win in Stonehaven.

After 15 minutes of the match Kinross were already fielding two of their substitutes due to injuries to Davie Farmer and Kinross High PE teacher Dave Mackay whose Kinross debut lasted all of 4 minutes – did anybody hear that scream!? George Harley came on to replace Farmer at number eight whilst utility man Ally Wood made his first appearance on the wing.

Kinross came away with the win thanks to tries from Campbell and Tees, Tees crossing the line in the final minute. Even although Elton definitely had the man covered Fraz will always remember this game for his self-proclaimed try saving tackle. The ‘Wee Man’s’ first man of the match award in the last ten seasons will no doubt be his last due to his incessant bragging about the fact he beat a 19 year old over 60 metres – it will probably be the last time he makes a tackle as well!

It was a close fought game with Mackie scoring their tries either side of half time, one of which was converted. They were also successful with a penalty attempt in the second half. Neither of the Kinross tries were converted but Spence took the lead in the top scorer table with two successful penalty attempts.

It may not have been done in style but a winning start to the season has to be considered a positive.
