Kinross 20 - 14 Edinburgh Borderers

 23/05/09

The annual “glamour match” was a hotly contested affair this year with Kinross coming out on top after a solid first half display.

The borderers broke from the tradition of other Edinburgh and Lothian clubs by actually travelling the 30 minutes north to fulfil this fixture. Or was it a Perthshire and Howe select side?? Maybe we will never know but the socks don’t lie.

The first half is where all the action occurred with all the points of the game being scored in this segment of the game.

The highlight of the game, or some may say highlight of the year, was the sight of Big Red collecting the ball about 6 metres out and with a mammoth stretch he notched up his first ever try for the club and indeed his entire career. The middle wood brother was understandably delighted with his efforts but was not amused when emerging from the bushes was his elder brother Ally, who slagged him saying, it wasn’t a real game so didn’t count. The taunts of him being a typical pesky skin flint student didn’t seem to bother him after his refusal to buy a jug for his first try.

The second half was a bit of a non event but the Kinross guard held strong and prevented a robust Borderers team from getting back into the game.

In other club news it is rumoured that the gypsys from the travellers site that has sprung up in the old market car park near the bottom of the town, are interested in buying up some of the now famous club “SRU Merchandise”. They have various deals to offer but the stocks of nicked gates and scabby dugs are running low so get down there fast if you want a cracking deal.

Club Members should not panic at the KGV being over run by travellers though this very helpful and informative sign has been installed in the car park.
